What Is a pdo thread lift?

A non-surgical PDO Thread Lift is a procedure that lifts and tightens the skin. Over time, the natural aging process causes the skin and soft tissue in the face to move towards the chin, losing the youthful “V” shaped appearance of the face. With a PDO Thread Lift, we aim to pull and tighten the skin and underlying fat upwards, away from the chin in order to restore a more youthful position.

What does PDO stand for?

PDO is an abbreviation for Polydiaxanone which is a biodegradable suture material that provides support to sagging facial tissues for a noticeable lift - this means that these PDO threads will dissolve.⠀⠀⁣

Korea is the first country where plastic surgeons used Polydiaxanone in the face for lifting and tightening effects. This proved highly effective and safe, and now this procedure is becoming more and more popular in the United States.

What should I expect the day of my PDO Threadlift?

The day of your PDO Threadlift, after being checked and in the room, your provider will lead a thorough consultation discussing candidacy, risks, benefits, recovery, treatment plan, and costs of procedure. Your provider will then use a skin pen to mark out where the threads will be placed.

After all markings take place, your provider will clean the area and place local anesthetic. After this, they will place the threads, which actually takes the shortest amount of time!

What happens to the threads once they are in?

PDO threads are actually a variation of a large sugar molecule, and so this thread is slowly broken down and dissolved over a 9-12 month period.

This dissolving process actually has a second, added benefit! While the procedure is used for lifting, the skin is simultaneously stimulated to produce collagen resulting in natural skin tightening in the area that has been treated. This means that the tightening effect actually gets BETTER OVER TIME.

Why a PDO Threadlift instead of a surgical facelift?

PDO threads offer a unique blend of skin lifting and tightening effects for a non-surgical, minimally invasive alternative to surgical procedures. The best candidate for a PDO Threadlift is a person who DOES NOT NEED a surgical facelift, but wants to restore a more youthful look and slow the aging process. The best candidates are usually in the 27-55yr age range, and people in this age range will show signs of sagging skin, but not enough to need surgery.

PDO Lifts offer many benefits over a traditional surgical facelift, including:

-Ability to perform yearly

-Less side effects and downtime

-More affordable

-Performed in the office with only local anesthetic

*However, if a person has a lot of loose and sagging skin, they may be candidates for a surgical facelift. Here in our clinic, we make sure to fully evaluate you before the procedure to make sure that you are a good candidate.

Does a PDO Threadlift hurt?

Local anesthesia (lidocaine) is used at the site where the threads enter, which most of our clients will describe as a “bee sting” feeling. When the threads are actually being placed under the skin, there is usually a sensation of moderate pressure. Our clients describe this procedure to be tolerable with mild to moderate discomfort.

The area where threads are placed will be sore for about 72hrs. However, if you are able to take Tylenol, keep an ice pack over the area and avoid pressure (such as sleeping on your stomach) then this is easily tolerated.

How long does a PDO Threadlift last?

The actual PDO threads will dissolve slowly over 9-12 months, and as they dissolve, the lift will lose it’s hold, and slowly start to move back to it’s original position. Most people prefer to have one Threadlift session per year to maintain the lift. HOWEVER, one great thing about the lift is that it is very preventative for future sagging and weakening of deeper ligaments of the face, so even though the threads dissolve over 9-12 months, that entire year of added prevention pays off in the long run!

Another added benefit of having a yearly PDO Threadlift is that you can change and customize where the threads go each time, thereby making small changes each year!

Is there any downtime after the pdo thread lift procedure?

You can go back to work and normal daily activities after the procedure, however we like to suggest the following:

  • Two weeks for healing from procedure day including any bruising, soreness, or swelling

  • One month for restrictions to be lifted such as: strenuous exercise, side sleeping, and facial massage

  • 3 months for full results including the collagen production your body creates in response to the PDO threads

What happens if a PDO Thread breaks afterwards?

It is very unlikely that a thread would break, as they are very strong. However, if this were to happen, then this does not require an intervention. The thread is left in place, which actually will continue to stimulate collagen, and will follow it’s natural course of dissolving in 9-12 months.

HOW MUCH IS A PDO THREAD LIFT IN AUSTIN texas?

The PDO thread lift is priced based on individual needs and desires. The average cost for a PDO Thread lower facelift, which focuses on the mid-face and jowling areas, ranges between $800-$1,500 range.
