What Is sculptra?

Sculptra® is used to restore lost volume in the face. The product is composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is injected beneath the skin to give a fuller look. PLLA serves as a stimulant for collagen and elastin production; collagen being an essential protein that offers structure, support, and strength in the skin, connective tissue and even the facial bones. PLLA is biocompatible, meaning it is safe for use in the body, and is slowly absorbed by the body over time.

How long does it take Sculptra to work?

When Sculptra is injected, it comes as a fine particle that looks similar to a small amount of baking soda mixed with water. The PLLA particles are suspended in a solution of sterile saline and are injected into deeper areas of the face. Once injected, they immediately start to trigger fibroblasts to start making collagen, elastin and proteoglycans.

This process takes time though; often the best results are seen 6-9 months after the treatments. Luckily, these results also last a long time-up to several years. If you maintain a yearly upkeep of just 1-2 vials then you will stay ahead of any Sculptra that naturally is broken down as well as normal age related loss.

Sculptra injections FAQs

Who is a candidate for Sculptra?

A candidate for Sculptra is someone looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin or add volume to areas like the face, hips, and buttocks. Sculptra is FDA-approved for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It can also be used as a non-surgical cheek enhancement or to contour other parts of the face. Ideal candidates are in good health with realistic expectations about the outcome of treatment. Every year after the age of 25, we lose 1% of our collagen. This loss of collagen slowly over time is part of the reason for signs of aging, such as loss of fullness in the face and thinner skin. Because of this, the earlier you start using Sculptra, the easier it is to stay ahead of this collagen loss!

How Much Does Sculptra Cost?

Sculptra costs $600 per vial. We also offer 2 vials for $950. At Maui MedSpa, we offer flexible payment options for Purchases over $750

How much Sculptra do I need?

One common recommendation is:

  • First Year using Sculptra: Start with 1 Vial of Sculptra for every decade of life. So, if you are 45 years old, you can start with 4 vials of SCULPTRA your first year.

  • Every Year After: 1-2 Vials of Sculptra for maintenance, spaced apart by 6 months.

Another common recommendation is 3 vials over the course of several months followed by 1 vial yearly.

How long until I see results after my Sculptra treatment?

Following a Sculptra treatment, you should start to notice changes in the elasticity and feel of your skin within seven days. The ideal and long-lasting results will be seen after an average of three treatments, taking place at intervals of four to six weeks apart. Gradually over the next four to six months, you will observe your results keep getting better until they reach their peak. This slow progress provides a more natural outcome than what is usually experienced with surgical procedures.
