What is Lip Filler DissolvEnt Hylenex?

Hylenex is a water-like injectable that is used to dissolve hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm that has either migrated to an undesirable location or when a person prefers the filler be removed.

Understanding Lip Filler Migration

Over the years, many people have expressed concern that if they get lip filler it may migrate and look worse than when they started. Sometimes people will come to the clinic for a consultation and ask if their lip filler has migrated.

Lip filler migration is certainly a real thing, and luckily it can easily be prevented. Here is a breakdown of how lip filler migrates and what can be done to prevent this from happening.

Too Much Filler: Simply put, when a lip has too much filler in it, that filler will naturally be pushed out of the lips. In the lip, there is nowhere for this filler to go except up, so the filler naturally is pushed into the area between the top lip and the nose.

For the vast majority of people, 1-2 syringes of filler will not be enough to cause migration. It is only when you get multiple syringes of filler, over a short amount of time, that you risk migration.

Incorrect Filler Placement: Sometimes the filler is placed too far above the lip border. In this case, that small amount of filler that was placed there may spread out and have a migrating effect. It is important to note that this does not create a “channel” for the rest of the filler to migrate. Only the filler originally put above the lip will look migrated.

When is Lip Filler DissolvEnt usually used?

The majority of people who ask for lip filler dissolving wish to have dermal filler in their lips removed because it has moved to an area that they do not prefer, or they have old filler that has not naturally dissolved.

In some cases, when dermal filler enters into a blood vessel, the provider will use this in order to remove the blockage.
