The HALO LASER by Sciton is an impressive resurfacing laser able to treat Lines and wrinkles, Photoaging (sun damage), rough texture and thinning skin.
This state-of-the-art Erbium laser directs light energy into both the superficial and deep layers of the skin. As the light energy touches the skin, it removes small plugs of tissue through a process called ablation. This pinpoint removal of tissue then signals to the skin that it needs to heal and fill in these small plugs. Through the process of healing the wrinkles are removed, acne scars and flattened and remodeled, rough texture is smoothed over and new fresh skin is brought to the surface.

Full Face and body Treatments
Full Face: The Halo Laser is best know for medium-depth full face resurfacing. The laser is powerful enough to remove deep sun damage and wrinkles while also preserving your downtime so that you can schedule this over a long weekend.
Neck: The neck is less prone to sun damage (because of the shade of the face) but shows crepiness much earlier. A Halo Laser once per year is a great way to keep the skin plump and ward off crepiness for many years.
Chest: Many women find themselves with sun damage on the decollete after years of accidentally not putting sunscreen on this sensitive area. Because this area typically has tougher sun damage, we recommend a deep Halo.
Arms: Less commonly known is that arms are a great area to do a laser! The Halo is ideal for this area as the hand piece has a quick rolling mechanism that makes large surface areas, such as the arms, quick to perform.
Hands: Hand show age. This area is often neglected and thus often a “tell” for age even if areas of the face and neck are youthful. All of our full-face ablative lasers come with a complimentary hand treatment!

Sun Damage: Photoaging is the process by which UV exposure damages the DNA of the skin and causes aging. The Halo does an excellent job of removing the pigment, dark spots, crepiness and thinning that comes about as the result of sun damage.
Lines and Wrinkles: The fine lines and wrinkles around the cheeks, mouth, eyes and forehead are most popularly treated with Botox. The Halo is a popular addition as this laser is able to remove fine lines as well as help smoothen etched in deep lines.
Dull and Rough Skin: The surface irregularities of the skin build up over the years. Truly, the only way to create smooth, glowing skin is by taking off the old skin and replacing it with new skin. The Halo does just this by wiping away the rough and worn layers so the fresh and healthy skin can take it’s place.
Skin Remodeling
Collagen Remodeling: When the Halo Laser triggers a healing response in the skin, new collagen is formed and deposited in many layers of the skin. When this happens, the new collagen fibers align themselves more evenly than what was found in damaged skin. This process is known as re-modeling as it literally is changing the orientation of your skin structure.
Elastin Formation: Our skin’s ability to stretch and bounce back is known as elasticity. This elasticity is at its peak in childhood (think of baby’s skin that bounces right back) and declines after the mid-twenties. The Halo triggers elastinogenesis in key areas such as thinning neck and chest skin so that youthful plumpiness is preserved and restored.

90 Days: This process of remodeling happens over a 90 day period, or three skin cycles. This means that the improvements from the Halo continue to get better over time, even after the initial “wow” happens when the first new layer of skin comes in.
Thin Skin: The chest is an area known for naturally thinner skin, which makes treatments by other lasers riskier. The chest is an area that is exposed to direct sunshine, and sometimes people forget to put sunscreen on this area. The Halo shines on chest skin because it is non ablative and has a customizable controlled depth that can reach the middle layers of both thin and thicker skin.
Pigment Removal: Years of sun exposure can result in built up brown and red pigment. This mixture of brown and red pigment is effectively broken up and removed with the Halo.
Crepiness: As this already thin skin becomes thinner with age and UV exposure, crepiness is noticeable on the chest sooner than other areas of the body. Crepiness can effectively be treated with a once-a-year Halo plus excellent year around skin care consisting of a retinoid, antioxidant and sunscreen.

What is the Aftercare and Dowtime after a HALO Laser?
What can I expect during a HALO Laser treatment?
This is the timeline you can expect on the day you get your HALO Laser Treatment:
Leading up to the appointment: You will meet for a 15 minute Zoom call with our coordinator to go over pre-care, post-care and day of expectations. If you need prescriptions such a valacyclovir, tretinoin etc. placed, she will put those in for you at that time.
Day of, 60 minutes prior to appointment: Arrive, get checked in and start numbing with a topical cream called BLT (Bupivocaine, Lidocaine and Tetracaine).
Start of appointment: Meet with your provider to review the plan and aftercare instructions. Clean off the numbing cream and potentially add additional numbing called a “dental block” for areas around the lips.
Twilight Anesthesia: If you have chosen to receive light sedation, then you will take oral tablets about 30 minutes before the appointment. This will help you relax and make the laser more comfortable.
During the laser: The laser “fires” in a pattern of small shots through a handpiece that rolls across the skin. Most often people say this feels like a “hot scratch or tattoo”. The laser handpiece rolls over the skin several times in each area until the full effect is seen.
After the laser: We apply a cooling biocellulose mask that you will go home with. We also provide a 7-day aftercare kit with instructions so that you will have everything you need for that week that you heal.
2-3 Weeks After: We will have you come back for a follow up to make sure healing is going as planned.
6-8 Weeks After: If you are planning on a series of treatments, we will see you around two months after for the next one!
Is the HALO Laser painful?
The HALO Laser requires topical numbing cream applied for 1 hour prior to the procedure. With adequate numbing time most patients tolerate the procedure well, though we do offer Pro-Nox nitrous oxide or light sedation for enhanced comfort. We also use a Zimmer Chiller during the procedure and immediately apply cool compresses and cool packs that you will go home with, making it comfortable for the ride home. You can expect to feel warm for about one hour after the procedure, however in the evening you will be easily be more comfortable with Ibuprofen, Benadryl and soaking towelettes.
Twilight Anesthesia (Light Sedation): When performed with our physician, we offer oral medications that both take away the sensation of pain and allow you to feel relaxed. These FDA approved analgesic medications provide safe and comfortable lessening of discomfort while avoiding the risks of deeper sedation or general anesthesia. Please note that a driver will be required.

How often will I need a treatment?
If you have never had a resurfacing laser, then you may need two during your first year, and then one treatment annually.
The aftercare after a HALO Laser is relatively simple and consists of soaking towelettes, a gentle cleanser and protective ointment-all of which will be provided for you. We are also proud to offer a range of procedure enhancement products that are clinically studies and proven to enhance results.
For the majority of HALO Lasers, you will be able to continue with most of your normal routine, with a few exceptions. You will be able to go about light daily activities, however during these days other people will be able to notice the healing process (This is why we call it “social” downtime). We also recommend to avoid gyms, garden work, or any other activity which could easily introduce bacteria to the healing skin.
