Cancer signals caught early
Galleri works by screening the blood test for small fragments of cancer DNA that are spilled over into the blood. Many cancers like pancreas, colon, lymphoma and more will develop in a way that allows them to shed these signals into the blood stream. Galleri detects these signals in the blood test and alerts you to their possible origin.
When detected, the Galleri test is able to determine the most likely origin of these DNA fragments. This allows us to quickly guide further MRI, CT, biopsies etc. to determine if cancer is actually present.
How does Galleri work?
As a new patient, you will start your wellness journey with a consultation with Dr. Turnage. At this visit, he will take a detailed history and physical and review your initial lab work. If you are a candidate for Semaglutide, you and Dr. Turnage will discuss the options prior to the first prescription. If compounded Semaglutide is ordered, you will return the following week for first dose injections as well as instructions on how to inject at home (you can also come in weekly if you would prefer we do it!). Starting photos will also be taken at this time .Typically a dose is tapered in 4-8 week segments until optimal dosing is reached. Initially, follow-up visits occur monthly until a stable dose is reached, where typically follow-ups occur in 8-12 week intervals.

No, but the Galleri can detect over 50 cancer types. The great thing about Galleri is that many of the cancers that it screens for are often only found late in the disease process, after it has spread. Examples are:
Pancreatic Cancer: Often found at a late stage after it is able to be treated.
Lymphoid Cancer: Often found once it has reached more than one lymph node.
Ovarian Cancer: which currently does not have a screening option.
Other signals include:
Anus
Bladder
Bone
Breast
Cervix
Rectum
Ovary
Esophagus
Gallbladder
Kidney
Larynx
Liver
Lung
Skin
Fallopian Tube
Stomach
Uterus
Vagina
Vulva
-
Generally this is recommended annually.
However, some cancers, such as pancreatic cancer, uterus cancer and stomach cancer are able to be detected 6 months prior to show on clinical exam.
This means that you can take this test up to two times per year for greater chance of early detection.
-
If you do get a positive result, then our team is right there with you.
When you get a positive result, the Galleri gives you the most likely origin of the positive result (called a Cancer Signal Origin COS). This means that our providers will quickly get you scheduled for follow up imaging, lab work and referrals to specialists that you will need to rule in, or out, a diagnosis of cancer.
-
If you get a positive result on Galleri, there is a 61% chance that this is an actual cancer.
There is a 39% chance that the positive result is not actually a cancer. If you did get a positive result, and then the subsequent imaging, lab work and referrals result in a NO cancer diagnosis, then Galleri will re-test for free as a double-check safeguard.
-
Yes-the Galleri is an additional check alongside the normal screening exams. You should still plan to get all recommended cancer screenings such as PAP Smear, Colonoscopy, Mammogram, PSA etc.
-
When we draw the blood here in the office, we ship it out the same day. It will take about two weeks for processing and then the results will be delivered to you in your email as well as through the mail.
-
Absolutely. While the test is expensive (and hopefully one day it will be made cheaper as new tests come on the market), the truth is that early detection can be a life saver.
-
At this time, health insurance companies do not pay for the Galleri test. However, you can certainly use your FSA card here at our clinic.
